Current Status in FL :
Florida has emerged as one of the more sound money-friendly states through a combination of tax advantages and legal tender recognition. The state exempts qualifying precious metals purchases exceeding $500 from sales tax and, because Florida has no state individual income tax, capital gains from the sale of precious metals are not subject to state taxation. In 2026, Florida also enacted legislation recognizing qualifying gold and silver coin and bullion as legal tender, while preserving the ability of individuals and businesses to voluntarily contract using precious metals.
Despite these favorable policies, Florida does not operate a state-owned precious metals depository or maintain publicly disclosed state holdings of physical gold or silver. The state also does not accept taxes or other government payments in precious metals and has not enacted specific anti-confiscation legislation. Overall, Florida provides a strong legal and tax environment for precious metals ownership and use, although it has not yet established state-backed storage or reserve programs.
