Current Status in AZ :
Arizona has established one of the strongest sound money frameworks in the United States through a combination of tax reforms, legal tender recognition, and state reserve authority. The state exempts qualifying precious metals from state sales tax and exempts qualifying gold and silver capital gains from state income tax. Arizona also recognizes gold and silver as legal tender when both parties voluntarily agree to use them, providing legal certainty for contracts and transactions involving precious metals.
Unlike most states, Arizona has authorized the creation of a State Bullion Depository Reserve Fund, allowing the state treasurer to acquire and hold physical gold and silver as reserve assets. However, the state does not operate a public bullion depository for private storage, nor does it currently accept taxes or other state payments in precious metals. Arizona has also not enacted explicit anti-confiscation legislation protecting privately owned gold and silver. Overall, Arizona ranks among the nation's leading sound money states due to its broad tax exemptions, legal recognition of precious metals as money, and authorization for state-held bullion reserves.
