Florida’s Sound Money Bills Gain Momentum in 2025 Legislative Session

After years of grassroots and legislative effort, the Florida legislature is once again considering transformative sound money policies. These include the Sound Money Act and a bill to repeal sales taxes on purchases of precious metals, such as gold and silver.

The effort has already garnered significant attention. Citizens for Sound Money (C4SM) has met with 31 legislators for the first time to discuss these critical measures—23 of whom were engaged just this week. These meetings included many of the freshman legislators who entered office following the 2024 general election.

Leadership Support and Building Momentum

Senate President Ben Albritton has been a consistent supporter of sound money initiatives. C4SM has met with him and his staff four times since the 2024 legislative session ended and is scheduled for a fifth meeting in the coming weeks. His involvement signals a strong leadership commitment to advancing these bills.

While the House version of the bills has yet to be assigned a number, Senate Bill 132 (legalizing sound money) and Senate Bill 134 (repealing sales taxes on precious metals) have already generated substantial interest. Legislators have indicated they are eager to vote “yes” and co-sponsor these bills, demonstrating a clear alignment with Florida’s growing demand for monetary reform.

Grassroots Advocacy Meets Strategic Partnerships

C4SM’s efforts extend beyond the halls of Florida’s legislature. The organization is mobilizing grassroots advocacy while collaborating with a key allied group to gain traction with legislative leadership. Together, these efforts aim to ensure sound money policies gain the necessary support for passage.

Missouri Leads the Way with the Constitutional Money Act

Meanwhile, in Missouri, the Constitutional Money Act is making significant progress. Governor Mike Kehoe has expressed strong verbal support for the bill, and House Speaker Jon Patterson has assured the House sponsor that the legislation will pass this year. With the bill having passed the Senate in both 2023 and 2024, its success in 2025 appears highly likely.

A Call to Action for Floridians

C4SM urges Florida residents to join the movement by calling or emailing their state senators, asking them to co-sponsor and support SB132 and SB134. Advocacy from constituents can make a decisive difference in securing these sound money reforms.

Once the House version of the bills is assigned a number, C4SM will provide updates and guidance on how Floridians can continue to support these vital measures.

Building a Sound Money Future

Florida and Missouri are setting the stage for sound money principles to take root in state governments across the nation. With strong leadership, strategic partnerships, and engaged grassroots advocates, 2025 could mark a pivotal year for those fighting to restore the constitutional principles of sound money.
